The Council did not take any decision on services tax rates. The two-day meeting will take up the exemption of essential services on Friday. "There is no increase in taxes of the items considered today. In fact, for many of them, taxes have come down," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told media every Indian and Jadhav could not be executed until the ICJ was seized of the matter, MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said at a media briefing. In response to a question, he said the ICJ’s verdict was a legally binding international obligation for Pakistan. NEW DELHI, 18 MAY One person died and 22 others were injured when a car ploughed into pedestrians in NewYork's busy Times Square on Thursday, with authorities saying the driver of the vehicle, a US Navy veteran, has a criminal history and record of drunk driving. Authorities identified the driver as 26- year Bronx resident Richard Rojas, who was immediately taken into custody. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stressed that there was no indication the incident was an act of terror. He told reporters at the scene that Rojas is a US citizen and a former member of the armed forces with the US Navy. “He has a criminal history." PTI The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Anil Madhav Dave, passed away here on Thursday. He was 60. A two-time Rajya Sabha member, Dave was a senior BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, who had a long association with the RSS. He died of cardiac arrest. Dave had reportedly complained of uneasiness at his house this morning and was rushed to the AIIMS hospital where he died. Expressing his shock over Dave's death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was with him "till late last evening, discussing key policy issues". Stating that he was "absolutely shocked by the sudden demise of my friend and a very respected colleague", PM Modi said this was his "personal loss". President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President M Hamid Ansari, and scores of leaders from across the political spectrum expressed their shock and condolences over Dave's demise. MORE ON PG 7
