Kerala High Court order came on a complaint by her father, who alleged that she had been brainwashed and was forced to convert to Islam as a victim of "love jihad". A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said, “Hadiya is free to live with her husband”, and ruled that Hadiya is "at liberty free to pursue her endeavours". The apex court stated that the High Court should not have intervened. The judgement came on a petition filed by Hadiya's husband Shafin Jahan, challenging the High Court order annulling their marriage. The High Court had cancelled Hadiya's marriage on a complaint by her father, K M Asokan, who alleged that she had been brainwashed and was forced to convert to Islam as a victim of "love jihad", a term being used to accuse Muslim men of drawing Hindu women into relationships, converting them and eventually recruiting them for terrorism. Naidu's move came in protest against the Modi dispensation's "failure" to fulfill the Centre's "assurances" given to Andhra Pradesh regarding Special Category Status (SCS) and other provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act during the bifurcation of the state in 2014. The TDP's Ministers tendered their resignation soon after PM Modi spoke to the AP CM. Naidu had told a press conference on Wednesday night that he had then tried to speak to Modi as "courtesy" to inform him about the TDP's decision to quit his ministry, but the PM had not come on line. Naidu had however refrained from announcing snapping of ties with the BJP and said the TDP would decide such matters later. Jaitley said giving SCS to any state apart from those in the Northeast and three hill provinces was not possible following the implementation of the 14th Finance Commission's recommendations. For SCS states, the Centre meets 90 per cent of the funds required in a centrally sponsored scheme as against 60 per cent in case of normal category states. Answering a question in Parliament, the Government recently stated that as per the guidelines of Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Women and Child Development is the nodal authority for appraisal of the schemes and proposals received under Nirbhaya Fund. With additional allocations, the corpus transferred to the Public Account for the Nirbhaya Fund up to 2017-18 is Rs 3100 crore, the reply said. As many as 22 projects of Central Ministries and States, with costs totalling Rs 2209 crores, on women’s safety and security have been appraised and recommended under Nirbhaya Fund. In the Rajya Sabha Renuka Chowdhary (Cong) pressed for early passage of theWomen’s Reservation Bill and added that crimes against womesn has increased. Kumari Selja (Cong) favoured that the Upper House pass a resolution that the reservation bill be passed by the Lower House soon. In a bid to introduce young leaders, the CPIM today dropped around 20 heavyweight leaders including Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Shyamal Chakraborty, Tarit Topdar, Kanti Ganguly, Madan Ghosh and Dipak Sarkar from the state committee.
