He noted that it was a privilege for him to be addressing the Parliament and through this temple of democracy speaking to the common people in Ethiopia ~ farmers, entrepreneurs, proud women and young people who are shaping the future of the country. Recalling the civilisational ties between India and Ethiopia, PM Modi underlined that both the countries combine ancient wisdom with modern ambition. Senior Indian officials firmly told the Bangladesh envoy that New Delhi rejects the false narrative sought to be created by extremist elements regarding certain recent events in Bangladesh. ‘’It is unfortunate that the interim government has neither conducted a thorough investigation nor shared meaningful evidence with India regarding the incidents,’’the MEA said in a statement after the meeting. The Lok Sabha on Wednesday approved the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, 2025, signaling a transformative shift in India’s nuclear energy sector. The bill repeals the Atomic Energy Act of 1962 and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act of 2010, consolidating them into a comprehensive, modern legal framework to support India’s expanding energy needs and climate goals. The bill’s passage came amid a walkout by the INDIA bloc opposition. Introduced by Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, the bill marks a significant modernisation of India’s nuclear governance, reflecting the country’s drive towards nuclear self-sufficiency and The MEA noted that India has close and friendly relations with the people of Bangladesh rooted in the liberation struggle, and strengthened through various developmental and people-to-people initiatives. ‘’We are in favour of peace and stability in Bangladesh and have consistently called for free, fair, inclusive and credible elections, conducted in a peaceful atmosphere,’’ it added. Miss Banerjee praised the rapid expansion of the state’s economy through MSMEs and the unorganised sector, stressing that nearly 60-65 lakh traders are engaged in small and large-scale trade. “If the Prime Minister refers to tea in his speeches, it is accepted. But if I say something similar, it is criticised. Please remember, about 60-65 lakh people earn their livelihood in the unorganised sector,” she remarked. The Chief Minister asserted that since her party assumed office in 2011, the “bandh culture” had been eradicated, boosting productivity and man-days under the 100-day work scheme. She blamed the former Left regime for perpetuating strikes, which she described as “a thing of the past.” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reiterated that no work is insignificant, citing examples such as selling tea and biscuits, which also contribute to the economy. Referring to the recent Salt Lake stadium incident on 13 December, she lamented that her government is routinely subjected to smear campaigns. Despite challenges, Miss Banerjee claimed that unemployment in the state has declined by 40 per cent, citing NITI Aayog’s report. She criticised demonetisation, saying it failed to deliver results and only weakened the national economy. Highlighting the strength of the MSME sector, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that over 1.3 crore people are engaged in it, with 93 lakh MSME units and 660 clusters established across West Bengal. She announced the setting up of two trade and export facilitation centres in Siliguri and Kolkata, along with a welfare board for traders to safeguard their interests.
