Delhi: Mother-son duo arrested for chopping & dumping live-in partner’s body STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI, 28 NOVEMBER Six months after the recovery of chopped parts of human body from Ram Leela Ground in Pandav Nagar of Delhi, Crime Branch of the Delhi Police succeeded in solving the blind murder case by arresting a mother-son duo. The accused have been identified as Poonam Devi (48) and Deepak (25), both residents of Kalyanpuri, Delhi, who murdered one, Anjan Das, about six months ago. During inquiry, it was found that the accused, Poonam, was living with the deceased Anjan Das since 2011. During the intervening time, she came to know that the deceased was having an evil eye on her divorced daughter and daughter-in-law. It is being claimed that the deceased even tried to rape her daughter-in-law, which trig- gered the anger and both the woman and her son killed him. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Singh Yadav said the information about some human body remains lying at Ram Leela Ground was received on June 5 this year at Pandav Nagar Police Station. Immediately, a police team reached the spot where they found the lower part of human legs in a decomposed state wrapped in plastic bags at the ground. The crime and forensics teams inspected the spot after which a search for the other body parts was started in and around Ram Leela Ground. After initial investigation, a case of murder was registered at Pandav Nagar Police Station and investigation taken up. During the inquiry, the head of the deceased got recovered from an isolated place in Pandav Nagar in highly decomposed condition wrapped in a plastic bag. Due to the decomposition of the face, the identity of the deceased could not be established. The case was later handed over to the Crime Branch for further investigation. To develop the information, a team under the supervision of Inspector Rakesh Kumar and overall supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Umesh Barthwal was constituted by Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goel. During the investigation, CCTV footage of nearby areas where body parts were found were re-checked and it was observed that the plastic bags were disposed of by one lady and a man on the intervening night of May 31-June 1, and during the day time too. The consistent efforts of the investigating team bore fruit, when they got a breakthrough by establishing the identity of the deceased as Anjan Das, who was missing for the last 5-6 months, but his family members didn’t report it to the police. Thereafter, the police team traced the address of Anjan Das at Trilokpuri, where his family members Poonam Devi and Deepak were residing. During questioning, both of the accused came up with conflicting versions. Later, during the scientific interrogation, they disclosed that they murdered Anjan Das and after killing him cut his body into pieces and dumped the pieces at various places at Ramlila Ground and Ganda Nala, New Ashok Vihar. Further investigation in the matter is being carried out.
