Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal (photo) said the scheme forms part of the government’s broader Export Promotion Mission and is designed to stabilise export flows during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty. Page 10 New Delhi: India on Thursday strongly condemned the attacks on energy installations in the West Asia conflict, calling them deeply disturbing and unacceptable, and said it is trying to diversify its LPG sources to reduce dependence on the region. Without directly blaming Israel or Iran for the attacks, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: “Recent attacks against energy installations in different locations across this region are deeply disturbing and only serve to further destabilise an already uncertain energy scenario for the whole world. Such attacks are unacceptable and need to cease.” At his regular Press briefing, the spokesperson admitted that energy supply has been a matter of concern for New Delhi in the wake of the conflict in West Asia. “It has been a matter of concern. Energy shipping routes have been impacted. The supply of LPG is a matter of concern. Therefore, we are prioritising domestic consumption; their needs will be taken care of. Then we'll see how we supply LPG to commercial establishments. In a social media post on X, after talking to Mr Macron, the PM wrote: “Spoke with my dear friend, President Emmanuel Macron, on the situation in West Asia and the urgent need for de-escalation, as well as a return to dialogue and diplomacy. We look forward to continuing our close coordination to advance peace and stability in the region and beyond.” During his conversation with Oman’s Sultan, Mr Modi condemned the violation of Oman’s sovereignty. “Had a productive conversation with my brother Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and conveyed advance Eid greetings to the people of Oman. We agreed on the need to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy for de-escalation and subsequent restoration of peace and stability. CM Mamata writes to ECI protesting ‘unilateral’ transfer of officers, calls move a ‘mockery of democracy’ STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE Kolkata, 19 March The large-scale transfer of senior bureaucrats and police officers in Bengal by the Election Commission of India has drawn sharp criticism from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who on Thursday wrote a strongly worded letter to the Chief Election Commissioner alleging “arbitrary” and “biased” action that has disrupted the state’s administration. This is the second letter the Chief Minister has written to the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar within a week. “I am deeply shocked by the functioning of the Election Commission of India… which, in my view, has crossed all boundaries of decency and constitutional propriety,” Miss Banerjee wrote in her letter dated 19 March. She further alleged that over the past few days, the Commission had “most unfortunately and unilaterally, replaced several senior officers of the State,” including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Director General of Police, along with District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police. This initiative aims to promote inclusivity and ease participation in the electoral process. Voters aged over 85 and persons with disabilities listed in electoral rolls can now vote from home via postal ballots under Section 60(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Eligible voters must apply using Form 12D within five days of election notification. Polling teams will collect ballots from homes following a pre-announced schedule. The facility extends to essential service personnel ~ including fire, healthcare, electricity, traffic, ambulance, aviation workers, and long-distance government transport employees ~ who can apply for postal ballots through nodal officers in their departments. Media personnel authorised for election coverage are also included as absentee voters eligible for postal ballots. Election duty personnel will vote at designated facilitation centres to ensure secrecy, receiving and submitting postal ballots onsite.
