The voting is scheduled to commence at 7 a.m. across 1.87 lakh polling stations, manned by more than 18 lakh polling officials, amid tight security to avert any untoward incident and culminate at 6 p.m. More than 16.63 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,625 candidates, including 134 women candidates. The eligible voters include 8.4 crore men, 8.23 crore women, and 11,371 third-gender electors. The number of firsttime voters is 35.67 lakh. Of the 102 Lok Sabha seats going to the polls in the first phase, 39 are in Tamil Nadu, 12 in Rajasthan, eight are in Uttar Pradesh, six are in Madhya Pradesh and four are in Bihar. Filing of nominations began with the issuing of the notification. In the fourth phase, polling will be held in 96 parliamentary constituencies (PCs) spread across 10 states states that will go to the polls in the first phase include Assam with five seats, Arunachal Pradesh,Manipur, and Meghalaya with two seats each, and Tripura, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Nagaland with one each. The prominent BJP candidates in the fray include Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonow- al, Kiren Rijiu and Jitendra Singh, UP minister Jitin Prasada and the president of Tamil Nadu BJP, K Annamalai. Mr Gadkari is contesting from Maharashtra’s Nagpur, Mr Sonowal from Assam’s Dibrugarh, Mr Rijiju from Arunachal Pradesh’s West, Mr Singh from Jammu and Kashmir’s and Union territories (UTs). Mr Modi had a good chat with the villagers, asking them how they managed their communications with other areas earlier. The villagers told him they did not believe they were getting mobile connectivity, till they really got it. The villagers invited him to spend another Diwali with them. The Prime Minister said people will wonder why does he go up 15,000 feet high to visit their village. The villagers told him earlier they had to travel eight kilometres to reach the nearest telephone. Mr Modi said it was hilly area and it could take a lot of their time in travelling. The villagers said it could really mean a whole day to do the exercise. The Prime Minister said when his government came to office in 2014, there was no electricity in many villages. They said the area got heavy rains sometimes, and NEW DELHI, 18 APRIL The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight-test of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on Thursday. During the test, all subsystems performed as per expectation. The missile performance was monitored by several Range Sensors like Radar, Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and Telemetry deployed by ITR at different locations to ensure complete coverage of the flight path. The flight of the missile was also monitored from the Su-30 MkI aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The missile followed the desired path using way point navigation and demonstrated very low altitude sea-skimming flight. This successful flight test has also established the reliable performance of the indigenous propulsion system developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru, said a release. With their help, children can be In a worry for Nestlé, India's food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is said to be examining a report that it adds sugar to its famous children's milk formula in India and several other countries in violation of international guidelines. A report by Switzerlandbased group Public Eye claimed that Swiss multinational company Nestlé added sugar to its milk formula brand - Cerelac - intended for infants and children of up to two years. The report said that Nestlé, which is the world's largest consumer goods company, adds sugar and honey to infant milk and cereal products in several countries, a violation of international guidelines aimed at preventing Findings showed that in India, all 15 Cerelac baby products contain an average of nearly 3 grams of sugar per serving. The same product is being sold with no added sugar in Germany and the UK, while in Ethiopia and Thailand, it contains nearly 6 grams. obesity and chronic diseases. Notably, in India, the sales of the product surpassed USD 250 million in 2022. As a repercussion of the report, Nestlé India witnessed a significant drop in its stock value on Thursday, with shares plunging nearly 4 per cent. At the close, Nestle India shares ended down nearly 3 per cent lower on the National Stock Exchange. EVMs give extra votes to lotus during mock polls in Kasaragod: LDF, UDF The ECI informed the Supreme Court that the allegations of EVM showing one extra vote in favour of BJP during a mock poll in Kasaragod were false. Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency' LDF candidate and CPI-M leader M V Balakrishnan filed a complaint with the District Collector, designated as the District Election Officer, to look into the errors. UDF candidate Rajmohan Unnithan's agent Muhammed Nasar Cherkalam said BJP's lotus was getting extra votes during the mock polling for the polling stations in Kasaragod Assembly Constituency. He also pointed out that the Congress's 'hand' symbol was smaller than other symbols on the voting machine. The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to examine and probe the allegations about four EVMs having erroneously logged votes in favour of BJP during mock polls held in Kasaragod. The probe agency's claim was made before the special judge for the Central agency’s cases as the chief minister had moved the court requesting permission to consult his doctor through video conferencing citing fluctuating sugar levels.
