The online money gaming industry comprises both domestic and foreign operators. Under the GST law, ‘Online Money Gaming’, an actionable claim, is classified as a supply of ‘Goods’ and subject to a 28 per cent tax. Entities operating in this sector are required to register under the GST regime. Around 700 offshore entities involved in the supply of online money gaming/betting/gambling are under the DGGI’s scanner, the Ministry of Finance said on Saturday. In a recent operation against some of the illegal gaming platforms, the DGGI targeted and blocked bank accounts that were being used to collect money from participants, attaching nearly 2,000 bank accounts and Rs. 4 crore, in coordination with the I4C and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). In another action, 392 bank accounts linked to UPI IDs found on the websites of some of these offshore entities have been put on debit freeze and a sum totaling Rs. 122.05 crore has been provisionally attached in these accounts. Another operation against a few Indian nationals who were running Online Money Gaming Platforms from outside India was conducted by the DGGI. In a significant milestone for India's naval self-reliance, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) today launched the second frigate of Project 1135.6 Additional Follow-on Ships, named Tavasya. NEW DELHI, 22 MARCH A total of 4,123 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across the country are holding all-party meetings to resolve any pending polling booth-level issues in their respective Assembly Constituencies (ACs), the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday. The poll panel said all 788 District Election Officers (DEOs) and 36 Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all 28 States and eight Union Territories (UTs) have been directed to hold such meetings to resolve any pending issues at the district and State/UT levels respectively, within the legal framework of the Representation of People Act 1950 and 1951, Registration of Elector Rules 1960, Conduct of Election Rules 1961 and the manuals, guidelines and instructions issued by it from time to time. “These meetings have already started with the active participation of national/state level political parties. All such meetings are to be completed in the entire country in each AC, district and State/UT by March 31,” the ECI said. This is in line with the directions of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during the conference of CEOs of all States/UTs held earlier this month in the national capital, it said. Kotiswar Singh, received a warm welcome from the state's legal fraternity upon their arrival at Imphal International Airport. Justice Gavai, serving as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), inaugurated several initiatives aimed at providing assistance to the affected population. These initiatives include legal services camps, medical camps, and legal aid clinics, launched virtually from the Mini Secretariat in Churachandpur district. The delegation visited the Sadbhavana Mandap relief camp in Churachandpur, interacting with individuals who have been residing there since the outbreak of violence in May 2023. They also toured relief camps in Bishnupur district, engaging with displaced persons and assessing their needs. Notably, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, a member of the Meitei community, refrained from visiting Churachandpur following objections from the Churachandpur District Bar Association. The association had advised against his visit, citing public sentiment and safety concerns amid the ongoing ethnic tensions. Justice Kotiswar Singh instead visited relief camps in Bishnupur district. The All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) had appealed to the Churachandpur District Bar Association to reconsider their stance, emphasising that the judges' visit is humanitarian in nature and not politically motivated. AMBA President Puyam Tomcha Meitei highlighted the historic significance of the Supreme Court delegation's visit and urged for unity in welcoming their efforts. The ethnic violence in Manipur erupted on 3 May 2023, following a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) protesting the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The ensuing clashes have led to numerous casualties and displaced thousands, severely impacting the state's socio-economic fabric.
