(Page 3) T he Karnataka government on Thursday released the details of the 11 people killed in the stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory celebrations on 4 June. Among the dead, one hailed from Udumalapet near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, and the rest are from Bengaluru and other districts of the state. According to the details shared by the Chief Minister’s Office, the deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Divyanshi, a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru; 26year-old Akshata Pai, a resident of Karwar; 19-year-old Bhoomik, a resident of M.S. Ramaiah Layout in Bengaluru; 23-year-old Sahana, a native of Kolar; 19-year-old Chinmaya Shetty, a resident of Doddakallasandra in Bengaluru; 20-year-old Manojkumar, a resident of Nagasandra village in Tumakuru district; 20-year-old Shravana K.T., a resident of Kallahalli village in Chikkaballapura district; 17year-old Shivu aka Shivalinga, a resident of Honigeri village in AGENCIES BENGALURU, 5 JUNE Yadgir district; 20-year-old Poornachandra, a resident of Rayasamudra village in Mandya district; 29year-old Kamakshidevi, a resident of Udumalapet near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and 22-year-old Prajwal, a resident of Yelahanka New Town in Bengaluru. The state government has announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and also ordered a magisterial probe. Police also filed an FIR against the RCB management, DNA event management company, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), naming them as accused regarding the stampede incident. The development came 24 hours after the tragic incident and amid criticism from Opposition parties and activists who questioned the government’s initial move to register only an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) instead of filing an FIR. The Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru city registered the FIR under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Karnataka High Court on Thursday sought a report from the Congress-led Karnataka government on the lapses and other details concerning the stampede incident near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people. Taking cognisance of the stampede incident, the high court registered a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and sought a report from the state government. A division bench, headed by acting Chief Justice V. Kameshwar Rao, expressing concern over the tragedy, questioned the government on whether the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were followed and if adequate guidelines were framed to handle the situation at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory celebrations. Prime Minister Modi also urged citizens to reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation, ensuring a cleaner and greener future. “This World Environment Day, let’s deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better,” he posted on microblogging platform X on the occasion of World Environment Day. The Prime Minister also launched a tree plantation drive aimed at reforesting the ancient Aravalli mountain range.
